What are Biopharmaceuticals?

What are Biopharmaceuticals?

The medical drug generated by the method of biotechnology in medical term or medical science is known biopharmaceuticals. They are created by means other than direct drawing out from an indigenous (non-engineered) biological or genetic source. The most of biopharmaceutical products are pharmaceuticals that are derivative of life forms.

Packaging Concerns for Biopharmaceuticals:

There is a huge range of packaging to suit every business need, you can easily find suitable package from sporting heroes to celebrities and animals. Due to rapid augmentation of biotherapeutics the need of consistent improvement and new requirements for primary packaging components is derived. Few years ago the medication products were packed loosely in plastic containers and boxes, posing a great threat to the consumer and environment too. Now a day’s more emphasis is given for environment protection. The packaging is very safe, childproof and anti-counterfeiting. It helps to increase drug sales automatically.

Though, pharmaceutical packaging has undergone a radical change over the past few decades. Tamper proof packaging is the trendiest form of packaging used by the industry today. Biopharmaceuticals have distinctive packaging requirements for sophisticated container–closure and drug delivery systems.

Special attention is required as biopharmaceuticals products are more sensitive to interactions with vial and syringe components, which can induce protein aggregation.  Therefore, a packaging solution is desired to offer protection to highly sensitive biotech drugs, from contamination and infection. It also ensures reliability in every aspect that could affect the fill–finish procedure or long-term drug stability.

Biopharmaceuticals are often called as sensitive pharmaceuticals as they consist of living organisms. They contain certain proteins, nucleic acids, etc which are susceptible to spoil from the slightest variation in temperature. As a result regulated temperature guarantee is vital in the procedure of storing and shipping these products. A lot of care is required while storing, transferring and transporting of these vulnerable, delicate and fragile products. That’s why a trustworthy and vigilant cold chain distribution system is necessary in maintaining the reliability of these products.

There are many such biopharmaceuticals products which are intensive temperature sensitive, hence a pre-defined and temperature regulated environment is required, while transportation because a slight variation in temperature can alter the quality of the product, which cannot be compromised. For that reason, the temperature controlled shipping industry has come into spotlight as a fundamental connection in the successful storage and distribution of these sensitive yet progressively more in-demand pharmaceuticals.

In today’s demanding, ever changing and regulated atmosphere, it is also lower costs associated with manufacturing processes of biopharmaceuticals. The use of disposable kits (a product designed for cheapness, instant, temporary and convenience with most products only intended for single use) is an emergent fashion. There are many new products and potentials that can be applied to manufacturing processes which will meet the requirements of today's manufacturer.
